Caerthe Arts & Sciences Championship

As the snows melt and spring comes to the aspen groves, it is time for the mighty Barony of Caerthe to bring its thoughtful attention to the great beauty created not only by nature, but also by our talented artists. Please join us as we marvel at the diverse works of our populace and choose a new champion for the upcoming year.
Come, one and all, to celebrate the creation of beauty and function.

A Grand Champion will be chosen and prizes will be awarded for populace choice, Baroness’ choice, and Laurel’s choice. Display space will be available and highly encouraged from any attendants. Single item entrants will be judged on a time and resource available basis but is open to all. Entrants for the Grand Champion competition shall be Caerthens who enter three distinct items with documentation, following the Barony of Caerthe’s A&S competition rules. These standards are available online at HYPERLINK "http://caerthe-sca.org/docs/AS_Rules_2004.pdf or from the Baronial Minister of Arts and Sciences. For categories, please see the Kingdom site at http://kmoas.outlands.org/DivisionsCategories/tabid/620/Default.aspx . Classes will be available for the populace while judging is taking place.

Entries:
By March 21 the following are needed from those with entries and displays:
All entries to be judged shall be registered with the autocrat, including both single and championship entries. Please include your name, the title of your entry, and the category it falls in.
Those entering research papers shall have a copy submitted to the autocrat, either in paper or electronic form.
Those wishing to enter something of an alcoholic nature must contact the autocrat to arrange judging at an alternate site.

The site will open at 9am. Those wishing to enter need to check in onsite by 10 am. Judging will begin at 11am.

Class: The Art of Retinue – Finding the Balance Between Serving and Burning Out
Instructor: Mistress Seuilla de Cordoba
Introduction: The class will consist of a brief discussion of what being on retinue entails, then open Q&A session about details. The focus is on service, and how to volunteer while still keeping the SCA fun.

Class: Beginning Knitting
Instructor: Lady Hannah d’Avila
Introduction: If you've ever wanted to learn to knit, started knitting and just couldn't get the hang of it, or if you learned years ago, but forgot, come put your hands on some needles today. Class will cover cast on, knit stich, purl stitch and cast off. Teacher will be available an additional hour after class if extra time is needed. Students will go home with needles, yarn, patterns and instructions to continue work at home. $1 donation if possible to cover copy costs.

Class: Chinese Cord Making
Instructor: Baron Larke del Glen
Introduction: Learn to braid traditional Chinese cording for decoration. Limited to the first six people. Looms will be available to borrow, but if you would like your own, they will also be sold for $40 each.

Class: Round Table Discussion on Non-European Personas
Instructor: Lady Diana of the Tulips
Introduction: Discussion group for ideas, motivation, and resolution of issues with all aspects of non-European personas.

Class: Tips, Tools, and Techniques for the Scribe
Instructor: Lady Killian MacKenzie
Introduction: Basics of scribal work

Class: Wire Wrap Jewelry
Instructor: DoĖa Arcadia de Medina
Introduction: Learn how to make wire wrap jewelry. Limited to the first seven people, $5 material fee.

Directions:
From the NORTH, take I-25 to the Speer Blvd exit, number 212B. Turn left (southeast) onto N Speer Blvd. After 0.8 miles, take a right (southwest) on Colorado Avalanche Blvd/CO-33. Turn left (southeast) on 7th St. Make a right on Lawrence St to drop off gear or continue on 7th to park in the H lot at the corner of 7th and Lawrence. Lawrence St. ends in a traffic circle with St. Cajetan’s Center to the south.
From the SOUTH, take I-25 to the W Colfax Ave./I-70 exit, number 210 A headed east. After 0.8 miles, turn left (northwest) on 7th St. Make a right into the H lot at the corner of Lawrence and 7th St to park or take a right on Lawrence St to drop off gear. Lawrence St. ends in a traffic circle with St. Cajetan’s Center to the south.

Fees:
Adult Site fee: $8
Child Site fee: $5 (ages 3-12)
Children under age 3 free
$3 non-member surcharge
$4.50 per car parking payable at the parking lot

A donation lunch will be served.
