Hosting Group: Hawks Hallow


On May 22-25, the Canton of Hawk’s Hollow bids welcome to summers warm return and beckons all to gather with them at the Crossroads, AKA: Quint Valley Fairground, 568 US Hwy 36, Byers, CO 80103 (45 minutes East of Denver on I-70). Travelers, who heed the call, shall be treated to an extended weekend full of fanciful beasts, battles, stories, proudly striding steeds, songs, feasting, and a pleasure fair too! Let your ears guide your path, for the Crossroads are calling you…more information to come regarding a special Armored Combat Collegium.

Crossroads offers expansive camping with areas set aside for Late-Night Party Plaza, Darbuka Drum Camp, and Family Fields; also specific Archery, Equestrian and Combat Camps located near the fighting fields for quick access!  Among the trees and grassy fields, the site offers potabl e water, flush and portable toilets, permanent equestrian facilities, substantial parking and a full indoor feast/class facility.

Dates & Logistics:

Site open: Friday, May 22nd at noon,
Closes: Monday, May 25th at 1:00pm
(Thursday camping/set-up available for those who volunteer at least 4 hours, call Co-Autocrat for more info)

Location:
Quint Valley Fairgrounds, 568 US Hwy 36, Byers, CO 80103

Directions:

From Denver, I-70 east 33 miles exit at Byers, CO. Turn north (left) on Main St. (US-36) and proceed for approx 1ŕ2 mile to Quint Valley Fairgrounds entrance on the left.

All Weekend: Adult $18, Child (under 13) $10, (Cap of $55 for 2 adults and 2+ children)
Day Trippers (no overnight):  Adult $10 Child $5
Feast: Lebanese foods (50 available)-$8

Join us at the Kitchen Window Café for ala carte meals:
Lunch $5, Breakfast $5
(Limited to 30 breakfasts and 50 lunches, guarantee yourself a meal-MAKE A RESERVATION)
Meals will be available for Friday lunch, Saturday & Sunday both breakfast & lunch.
Drinks will also be available.  (Looking for a Liaison for the Kitchen Window Café—interested (?); could be a great group fundraiser!)

Friday:
   • The Flying Bovine Pleasure Fair (merchants and fair day competitions)
   • The Crossroads Cup & Hat Competition (wear your finest hat to the “Monty Pythonesque” races)
   • A&S Classes

Saturday:
   • Bofferhawk (child/parent activity)
   • A&S Classes
   • Crossroads Armored Combat Tourney
   • Crossroads Rapier Combat Tourney
   • Crossroads Equestrian Competition
   • Kingdom Archery Qualifier & Crossroads Competition /div>
   • Feast (We are looking for a group to perform during the feast, Play, Music, Magic?)
   • The Crossroads Bardic Competition

Sunday:

   • Kingdom Archery Warden Shoot
   • Crossroads A&S Competition
   • Armored Combat Battle Scenarios
   • Rapier Battle Scenarios
   • Equestrian Exhibition
   • Thank-you potluck dinner (Canton providing main dish, please bring a side dish to share)
   • Ghost Stories Round the Campfire (scare the kiddies while we roast m arshmallows)

Fencing at Crossroads

Friday- none
Saturday- Tournament 1 1⁄2 hours + 3 fencing classes
Sunday- Melees

Fencing Classes:

Fencing 101
1 hour
Open to anyone 14 years or older
No experience necessary
Males- bring groin protection
Everyone cover your legs and wear socks
Epee only
Hands-on Class

This is a class for beginners. Topics covered are armor, rules, stance, parries, distance, lunge, and valid touches. This is a great class for those who have always wanted trying fencing.

Fencing 102
1 hour
Open to anyone 14 years or older
Little fencing experience needed
Males- bring groin protection
Everyone cover your legs and wear socks
Epee only
Hands-on class

This is a class for those with a little experience. Topics covered are sparring, drills, marshalling, shot programming, tournament styles, mock tournament, and offensive and defensive off-hands. 

The Complete Rapier Fighter
1 hour
Open to anyone 14 years or older
Lecture-style class

This is a class for those with a little or no experience. Topics covered are fencing jackets, ranks, where to get equipment, what equipment to buy or make, common problems, etiquette, chivalry, other kingdoms rules, death-from-behind, tournaments vs. melees.
